Aloha from Zion Estes,

We are preparing the launching of  A World-wide weekly initiative, called Sustainable Action Day.

Sustainable Action Day is targeted to be held on Furlough Fridays.  We are demanding Sustainable Action Now and this not only involves children and education but also Sustainable Action education in general to help re-activate our local communities and economies.

My self, and a number of Hawaii residents other several other organizations are working on launching Sustainable Action Day movement.   I am very excited to announce that our Sustainable Action Day events will soon be hosted at the Waimea School Elementary here on the Big Island of Hawaii every Friday.  We invite everyone and all organizations to join or promote Sustainable Action Day movement. The timing for this could not be better during a destabilized economic environment.  This is one moment in history where industries of the past and new industries of the future have a chance to make a smooth transition into a sustainability and technology era. Please take a moment to review our Vision and Mission Statement.

Please Sign Our Petition at the bottom if you support the idea of having a Sustainable Action Day every week.

Thank you for you consideration and we hope you are interested in joining this World wide campaign...

Please review our Vision Mission Statement below

Sustainable Action Day Vision Mission Statement
Sustainable Action Days objective is to promote research, communication networking, and high tech and sustainable education, through community and cultural events, with emphasis on self-sufficiency and ecologically sound sustainable development.

Sustainable Action Day partners with Resilience Hawaii to also address Disaster Resilience Preparedness & Sustainable & Cultural Development

Projects:

Engage community leader’s citizens and businesses to identify pressing risks and vulnerabilities and develop strategies for building a resilient and culturally sustainable Hawaii.

Sustainable Action Day on Furlough Friday's is a proactive society nation wide initiative goal that will cause cooperative collaborative partnerships between County and Resilient and Sustainable Action Organizations.

Barack Obama Calls “Preparedness” “A top priority” Says “More Resilient Nation” is “Our Goal”. “Preparedness is an essential element of a resilient and secure Nation. My Administration has made preparedness a top priority, and we are working every day to ensure our country stands ready to respond to any disaster or emergency — from wildfires and hurricanes, to terrorist attacks and pandemic disease. Our goal is to ensure a more resilient Nation — one in which individuals, communities, and our economy can adapt to changing conditions as well as withstand and rapidly recover from disruption due to emergencies.”

Develop model programs, applied research, seminars, workshops and activities that demonstrate sustainable community development that promotes a community’s social, economic and environmental well being. Such model programs often incorporate multifaceted themes and approaches: Individual and community well-being; Community social-interaction and self-determination; Community service and volunteer programs; Environmental justice; Environmental education; Community awareness in energy, sustainability, and recycling; Cultural and architectural resources protection; Public-private partnerships; Creative expression through multi-media production.

1. Facilitate communication among public government agencies, non-government organizations, and businesses that develop and promote environmentally sustainable models which can be replicated by other communities.

2. Develop cultural studies, projects and that foster sustainable economies in agriculture, natural resources, and an ecotourism which can be integrated within environmentally sustainable community development models.

3. Provide technical assistance to facilitate the development of environmentally sustainable housing, agricultural, economic development, and community development projects. Such assistance will include aid in project design, strategic planning, program financing access to grants, and environmental impact assessments related to such models.

4. Serve as a sustainable media resource for cooperative community networking through the implementation of teleconferencing and broadcasting internet media solutions. Provide online educational resources for information and written material on matters as they relate to environmentally sustainable community development and individual and community wellness and wellbeing, and serve as a vehicle through which member organizations share relevant information.

5. Engage in public education activities designed to better inform the local, domestic and international community on matters relating to development of environmentally sustainable communities.

6. Develop and promote models of sustainable community development that integrate environmental education, social and economic development, and individual physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being.

7. Promote awareness about sustainable development best practices through seminars, workshops, and collaborations with government, non-government organizations, and private businesses.

8. Promote educational programs through academic training, field studies and applied research projects and student internship programs that engage students in sustainable development education. Collaborate with domestic and international institutions of higher education to accomplish this objective.

Sustainable Action Day Projects Include:
Developing Sustainable Action Day Networks to assist marginalized local rural communities by creating programs and projects utilizing concepts of sustainability, self-sufficiency, renew-ability, and recycling. Establish a network of local organizations and individuals whose mission and methods are consistent with a philosophy of respect for the ‘aina (land, water, all natural resources), both in terms of the impact on our island but also on the global ecosystem. Currently there are a number of groups in Kailua-Kona, South Kohala, Hamakua, and Pahoa that are conceiving, developing, and implementing culturally appropriate and economically viable forms of sustainable community development. The project partners are non profit organizations from each of the participating communities.

They include Kahu O Kahiko Inc., AMARAKA United Music Foundation, LIVE H2O, Rock N Renew Foundation, and True Offsets. Institutional supporters to these various project include the State Of Hawaii, County of Hawaii, and Waimea  Elementary.

Sustainable Action Day guides the economic development by creating opportunities through projects that: 1) advance economic, environmental, and social equity in communities, 2) reflect the common values, traditions, needs, and expectations of local communities, and 3) promote the interests of marginalized peoples, especially advancing the efforts of youth and minorities in community development.
